Ferritic Nitrocarburizing
Nitrocarburizing is often an alternative to carburizing
or carbonitriding. A very important advantage is that nitrocarburizing
is a “low temperature method.” By low temperature
here is meant a temperature below the one where phase transformation
to austenite starts, and high temperature is above the said
temperature. The valuable consequence is much less distortion
of treated parts, which eliminates grinding and therefore
shortens the production cycle. This process also gives unique
improvements in corrosion resistance and adhesive wear, which
cannot be obtained by carburizing or carbonitriding.
