Ferritic Nitrocarburizing
What Is Ferritic Nitrocarburizing?
Allowing for optimal hardness, durability, scuff resistance, and corrosion control, the ferritic nitrocarburizing process offers a multitude of benefits, without the toxicity and side effects so common with standard chemical coatings.
A highly specialized service, ferritic nitrocarburizing is a thermochemical surface hardening process that diffuses a combination of nitrogen and carbon gases directly into the surface of a steel part. This case-hardening technique is increasingly popular in modern engineering applications due to its low environmental impact and high efficacy, not to mention the superior end surface quality achieved.
Because the process operates at comparatively low processing temperatures, with steel in the ferritic phase, there’s no phase changing involved – and no distortion. Nitrogen and carbon are fused into the steel surface of a part to create a hard, protective casing, all while preserving the integrity of the original shape.
The ferritic nitrocarburizing hardening technique is practical, economical, and highly efficient – with no negative environmental impact.
